I WANT 3 VOLUNTEERS..YOU, YOU, & YOU...

My title line about 3 volunteers comes from an old Army joke....but now it applies to our nation under the dubious leadership of Barack Obama...and IT IS NO JOKE.
Okay, so the Congress has passed the G.I.V.E. act (Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education), HR 1388 and passed it on to the Senate. Now the Senate has renamed it the "Serve America Act, S 277, and they have passed it.
There are still some good guys in the Senate...Senator David Vitter [R-LA] offered an amendment to the bill which would have stated that "no funds within the underlying bill for various service-related programs can go to “ACORN or any of its affiliate organizations in any way.”ACORN stands for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. It’s a community organizing group for “low- and moderate-income people” according to its website. The group’s political committees generally support Democrats. Senator Vitter's amendment was killed by a vote of 53 to 43.
On the other hand, I am disappointed in our NC Senator Richard Burr, who, rather than voting to kill the bill, introduced an amendment to require an FBI Background Check on every volunteer. The way I understand the bill, everyone will be required to volunteer in some way, so there will be an FBI file on everyone. Fortunately, Senator Burr's amendment was not passed.
The following is an excerpt from the blog of Axis of the Right, conservative watchdog group:
The House of Representatives passed the Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act (GIVE), creating a mandate for community service among high school and college students. The bill spends $6 billion on beefing up government-paid and sponsored national service programs, and paves the way for future mandatory service by establishing a commission to explore the feasibility of such a plan. The stated goal of the Obama Administration is to require service programs in secondary schools, as well as for a period of three months to a year of service before, during, or after one’s college education.

Leaving aside the already talked about civilian socialist army comparisons, expanding government’s role in the business of community service is a bad idea for several reasons. First, it places a mandate on what should be a “volunteer” activity. Community service is a wonderful thing, but it is and should be the result of volunteering or goodwill on the part of participants. Second, coordination of such efforts are best applied at the local level. The Federal Government has not demonstrated an ability to run anything efficiently, and a national mandatory community service program for ALL young people has the potential to grow into an enormous bureaucracy that can never be effectively managed. Finally, and probably most ominously, the service mandate would do severe harm to organized religion and move our nation to a more secular society. The bill would severely harm local religious charities, as it does not allow coordination with any religious organization. Religious charities do some of the best charitable work in this country, and do it in a cost-effective way. Forcing young people to give up their time to a government charity will preclude many of these people from serving in religious charities that they may otherwise be inclined to serve in.

Additionally, the bill also bars participants in the program (which, remember, will likely end up being mandatory) from participating in religious activities. This blatantly unconstitutional provision will no doubt be hailed by both liberals and the ACLU as protecting that great “Wall of Separation” between church and state. Combined with its likely effect on religious charities, this bill essentially ends up moving creating a statist replacement for religious activity. By separating the role of churches from service and forbidding religious participation while in the program, the government is promoting a marginalization of the next generation of Americans from organized religion. With many Republicans on board due to the feel-good soundbite of “community service”, the bill is likely to become law. It is tragic that religion, which has been a hallmark of American society since it’s founding, will be the biggest victim of this bill, further moving our nation towards a secularism that was never envisioned by our founders.

More later when I've had a chance to digest what they've done...actually, I don't think it can be digested...puked is more likely.

CONSTITUTIONAL SCHOLAR?

Barack Obama claims to be a "Constitutional Scholar" having concentrated on the subject of Constitutional Law while at Harvard University (the college everyone from a humble, poor background attends). Based on those studies, one would assume that Mr. Obama has a solid understanding of our Constitution, so why does he not seem to understand that HR1388 as it has been proposed is unconstitutional.
Here is what the U.S. Constitution says in Article 13 about "Mandatory Volunteerism";

"Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."

Even I find Article 13 to be easy to understand and self-explanatory.

I'm not a Constitutional Scholar, but I did learn a few things about the Constitution back when you could still get a good education in the public schools (a long time ago...before the NEA).
Abraham Lincoln (whom Obama seems to believe he is the reincarnation of) pushed for basically the identical Article while running for President in 1861...that proposed article read:

"No amendment shall be made to the Constitution which will authorize or give to Congress the power to abolish or interfere, within any State, with the domestic institutions thereof, including that of persons held to labor or service by the laws of said State."

The article Lincoln campaigned for was not ratified, but it was again proposed and ratified in its present form in 1865. Obviously Barry hasn't read that part.

HR1388 was originally titled Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education with the acronym "G.I.V.E.", and passed in the House by a vote of both Democrats & Republicans of 321-105. It is now in the Senate and is being hidden under a new name; S277, "The NATIONAL SERVICE REAUTHORIZATION ACT".

The resolution was rushed through the House and when it got to the Senate, Senator Harry Reid [D-NV] asked for, and was granted Cloture. If you don't know what that means, here is the definition: Cloture is a means of terminating a filibuster, which is a prolonged speech on the floor of the Senate designed to forestall legislative action.

As soon as Cloture was granted, Senator Reid and his cronies then moved to bring debate on the bill to a close, effectively blocking any opposition to its passage.

Calling your Senator or Congressman will do no good at this point, however the American people should flood the Senate switchboard to voice their dissatisfaction with the way this is being shoved down our throats. The Senate switchboard number is (204)224-3121.

If this HR1388/S277 becomes law, we will all become serfs of the state.

WHO VOTED FOR HR 1388?

I'm about to tell you...but first, I feel compelled to mention one apparently honorable Democrat, Robert Berry, D-Arkansas, who was the only member of his party to vote against the bill.
Now, the bad news....we obviously have a lot of Republican Representatives who either didn't bother to read the resolution (like the stimulus package), or they are closet Democrats. Below is a list of the Republicans who have voted for this piece of crap:

Rep. Steve Austria [R, OH-7] Rep. Spencer Bachus [R, AL-6] Rep. Judy Biggert [R, IL-13] Rep. Brian Bilbray [R, CA-50] Rep. Gus Bilirakis [R, FL-9] Rep. Mary Bono Mack [R, CA-45] Rep. If your congressman's name is on this list, you need to contact him and voice your concern and displeasure...your children's and grandchildren's futures depend on it.

More on HR 1388 coming in the next couple of days.

THE BROWNSHIRTS ARE COMING!

What a great distraction the Liberal Democrats have come up with...fake outrage at AIG and keep it in the media so we don't hear anything about HR 45 and HR 1388. For anyone who doesn't know what HR 45 is, it is a House Resolution (a bill) that they are pushing that will put the greatest restrictions ever on our Right to Keep and Bear Arms. In addition to going after handguns, the bill also places incredible restrictions and licensing requirements for long guns...that's right, your hunting rifle and shotgun. If you don't know about HR 1388, it is a bill that, if it passes will create a law that will REQUIRE VOLUNTEERISM of United States citizens.
Talk about an oxymoron: MANDATORY VOLUNTEERISM. It is nothing more than a violation of our constitutional right not to be subjected to involuntary servitude. It will set up a new government entity called the "U.S. Public Service Academy" where they will indoctrinate our kids.
Do you see where all of this is going? Here are a couple of ideas to help you see what it's about:

Let your representatives (that's a joke) know how you feel about these bills.

Firearms Legislation In The 111th Congress

This is an outline of the Firearms Legislation now pending in Congress;
Gun Owners of America analysis of current House Bills:
H.R. 17, H.R. 45, H.R. 197, H.R. 257, H.R. 442 & H.R. 495

H.R. 17 (Bartlett): This bill would reaffirm the right to use firearms for self-defense and for defense of one’s home and family.

H.R. 45 (Rush): This bill would require a license for handguns and semiautomatics, including those currently possessed. The applicant must be thumbprinted and sign a certification that, effectively, the firearm will not be kept in a place where it would be available for the defense of the gun owner’s family. The applicant must also make available ALL of his psychiatric records, pass an exam, and pay a fee of up to $25. The license may be renewed after five years and may be revoked. Private sales would be outlawed, and reports to the attorney general of all transactions would be required, even when, as the bill allows, the AG determines that a state licensing system is sufficiently draconian to substitute for the federal license. With virtually no exceptions, ALL firearms transactions (involving semiautos, handguns, long guns, etc.) would be subject to a Brady check. In addition, the bill would make it unlawful in nearly all cases to keep any loaded firearm for self-defense. A variety of “crimes by omission” (such as failure to report certain things) would be created. Criminal penalties of up to ten years and almost unlimited regulatory and inspection authority would be established.

H.R. 197 (Stearns): This bill would establish national standards for concealed carry reciprocity, but would not protect residents of pro-gun states like Vermont and Alaska which do not require paper permits.

H.R. 257 (Jackson Lee): This bill would take the already Byzantine restrictions on teaching your kids the responsible use of firearms and extend them from handguns to semi-autos; increase the age of applicability from 18 to 21; and increase potential penalties to up to 10 years in prison.
In addition, the bill prohibits unaccompanied minors from gun shows, and subjects parents to up to 3 years in prison for keeping an unloaded gun (with ammunition in the vicinity) if a jury finds that they disregarded a risk, that a kid (including a burglar) would get a hold of the gun and the unauthorized user causes injury. This provision effectively eliminates having guns available for self defense.

H.R. 442 (Rehberg): This bill would provide amnesty for a veteran who acquired a “souvenir” (such as a machine gun) while serving overseas, so long as it is registered during a 90-day grace period.

H.R. 495 (Rodriguez, Teague, Engel, Reyes): This bill would authorize $15,000,000 for two years to the BATFE for the purpose of enhancing its project to thwart the transportation of firearms across the Mexican border.

H.R. 1074 (Scalise): This bill would allow for the interstate sale of firearms, provided that the laws of the State in which the transfer is conducted and the State of residence of the transferee are complied with, in addition to federal law.

Senate bills:

None posted at this time.

WE ALL NEED TO CONTACT OUR CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVES AND VOICE OUR OPINIONS OF THESE BILLS..OUR 2ND AMENDMENT RIGHTS ARE AT STAKE!

Nothing original from The House Doctor today...but I would like to point out some things about HR 45 the most restrictive gun legislation ever proposed in the United States of America. This comes from an article by the non-profit organization Gun Owners of America;
- Legislation may reflect Obama’s thinking

by Mike Hammond

Those of you who regularly peruse the GOA website know that there are dozens of anti-gun abominations which are introduced as legislation in the Senate and House each Congress. These include, particularly, national gun licensing and broad gun bans.

GOA provides a summary of these bills for the benefit of our members and friends. Most of them are cynically introduced so that the Brady Campaign can raise money by threatening anti-gun measures it could never pass.

But the first anti-gun bill of the 111th Congress -– Chicago Congressman Bobby Rush’s H.R. 45 –- has caught the attention of many in the Second Amendment community as something we need to be worried about.

This is because of the extremity of the bill:

* H.R. 45 would require a federal license for all handguns and semiautomatics, including those you currently possess; and

* It would require handgun and semi-auto owners to be thumbprinted at the police station and to sign a certificate that, effectively, the firearm will not be kept in a place where it would be available for the defense of the gun owner’s family.

Pretty scary, huh? But, while this despotic nuttiness makes you wonder why a congressman from the Murder Capital of the Midwest would think that it would help to make the residents of New Hampshire, Alaska, and Wyoming comply with his blood-soaked city’s anti-gun laws, there have been other bills which are just as unconstitutional.

Rather, what makes H.R. 45 troubling is its sponsor and its timing.

Its sponsor is Congressman Bobby Rush –- a scion of the same super-corrupt Chicago political machine that produced disgraced Governor Rod Blagojevich and President Barack Obama.

And as for its timing, it was introduced during the confirmation of Attorney General nominee Eric Holder -- the man who tried exploit the Columbine tragedy in order to pass gun licensing as Deputy Attorney General in the Clinton administration.

And make no mistake about it: Licensing is only a way-station to discouraging, arresting, or humiliating gun owners and outlawing guns. Under H.R. 45, for example, the applicant must also make available ALL of his psychiatric records, pass an exam, and pay a fee.

So... are you a veteran who has ever consulted a psychologist or psychiatrist? Guess what? The FBI would soon be examining every confidential statement you have ever made during those consultations.

Private sales of handguns and semi-autos would be outlawed, and reports to the attorney general of all transactions would be required, even when -- as the bill allows -- the AG determines that a state licensing system is sufficiently draconian to substitute for the federal license.

But, you may be thinking, “I’m just a hunter with a deer rifle... surely, none of this is relevant to me”?

Then you should know that, with virtually no exceptions, ALL firearms transactions (including person-to-person private sales of long guns, hunting rifles, shotguns, etc.) would be subject to the same paperwork hassles that are required when buying from a dealer.

In addition, the bill would make it unlawful in virtually all cases to keep any loaded firearm for self-defense. A variety of “crimes by omission” (such as failure to report certain things to the government) would be created.

Criminal penalties of up to ten years and virtually unlimited regulatory and inspection authority would be established.

Combined with the Ammunition Accountability effort to outlaw ammunition in numerous states, this two-pronged attack would soon make gun ownership a thing of the past.

Barack Obama was fond of saying during the campaign that he supported the Second Amendment. And we read of gun buyers who are flocking -– while it is still legal -– to purchase firearms, but who concede that they believed Obama’s assurances and voted for him.

But we may soon see a more horrific, nastier side of Barack Obama... and a capacity to go after his political enemies. And we have to assume that he will view gun owners as just about the most important of those enemies.

Scary stuff, huh?

OBAMA OUTSPENDS BUSH'S 2 WARS

Well, here we are just shy of 90 days into the Obama administration and he's already spent more than W did in Afghanistan and Iraq.
How the hell are we going to spend ourselves out of a recession with the creation of short-term government projects? Truman tried it....FDR tried it.....the only thing that brought us out of the depression was gearing up and moving into a wartime economy when we got involved in WWII.
Then Johnson tried it with his "Great Society" which turned out to be an abominable snow job.
The Liberals constantly complain about the "military-industrial complex". I guess they don't realize just how many times it has kept our economy out of the toilet.
I have decided that I WILL NOT PARTICIPATE IN THIS RECESSION.
If anyone hears me ask for a BAILOUT, it means I'm in jail.
